Gordon Buchan has held a variety of senior business development and legal positions with several technology companies and law firms over a 25 year career. Educated as an electrical engineer and a lawyer (University of Western Ontario, 1971 and 1978 respectively), he initially specialized in Intellectual Property with an international boutique law firm in Ottawa. He moved to the corporate world in 1981 joining Mitel Corp. as Director of International Business Development. In 1984 he co-founded Omzig Corp., a technology start-up company until 1988 when he moved to what is now Fraser Milner Casgrain, a Bay Street law firm, to head up its Intellectual Property Law Group. In 1993 he joined Northern Telecom in the Technology Law Group where he was involved in several major transactions. In 1995 he left Nortel to consult before joining JDS Uniphase in 1996. Most recently he retired as VP Business Development and Senior Legal Advisor from JDS Uniphase after 7 years with the company, where he had extensive experience in business development, intellectual property management, mergers and acquisitions, and was responsible for the management of the Commercial Legal Group and Intellectual Property Group. |
